Super-sized Swing Set

As the children grow, so must their toys! They had an 8 foot high set that they grew out of last year, so this year Todd is adding new legs that are 12 feet high. It is a big project of engineering but it is fun to watch it all come together. Now if we can just keep them from launching themselves across the yard....:-)

Our First Paid Concert

We just returned from our first paid concert together as a family. It went wonderfully, and the residents and staff were happy with us. We performed about 20 songs for a little over an hour and then talked with the residents. They are SO thankful when we come and entertain them, everywhere we go it's the same thing. They LOVE to see the little ones and hear all of us sing. Now if we can just get more of these "gigs" we'll be in an official business!!

Volunteer Appreciation Day

This is our 2nd Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at the local nursing home where we play and sing. We have been going to entertain the residents there for about 18 months and enjoy it immensely. Our dinner today was great as usual, serving lasagna and lemon meringue pie for dessert. Oh, and don't forget the cheese filled breadsticks!! A great day, and nice to be recognized for helping out in the community. We were Volunteer of the month for October last year, so we brought home a special certificate. We also won 2 door prizes!! (It increases your chance of winning when you have 6 in your party!!)

A Special Treat for a Special Day

It's something I don't do very often. In fact, I really can't remember the last time I made them. But every so often I enjoy making whole wheat tortillas from scratch. They are so wonderful and wholesome. They smell terrific and taste splendid. A double batch makes 24, which is what I ended up with for this recipe. So good, so easy, I think I'll have to make these more often. My kids LOVE them, too. Gabby is in the pic holding it to her face, and she said " If only you could see my smile under here!!" What a great meal!

Spring Leaping.....

Spring has sprung in our backyard!! We finally were blessed with a 65 degree day, AND the snow and ice are officially gone!! Yes, we know that living where we do we may see more snow and ice yet, but still, we couldn't help ourselves from celebrating just a little.....T-shirts, capris, barefeet, and major leaps into the air from high atop our freshly delivered topsoil piles. We will have a special meal tonight in honor of this beautiful start of a new season. And another party of sorts on the morning after we can actually HEAR the frogs chirping from our windows at night.....but that's another post !!

The first official soccer game

The snow in the yard is almost completely gone. I told the kids we'd have a mini party to celebrate the fact that ALL the snow and ice have disappeared, but we can't have it yet as there is still some ice in the shady areas. But soon!!! Meanwhile, most of the snow is gone, and so, we couldn't resist. We dug out the soccer ball and started kicking it back and forth. And then around. Then the tricks started. Then teams formed. Then fouls were called. Then we started keeping track of points. Then Mom got the camera. A great Sabbath afternoon with the family in the sunshine!!!

A Trip to the Park

We have had several days of 50 balmy degrees, and so today we took a bike ride to the park near our home. There is a river that is high right now because of the snow melt, so the kids persuaded Tootsie our chocolate Lab to go fetch some sticks. She is definitely a water dog and enjoyed the 40 degree water !!! She looked unsure of actually swimming....It will come I'm sure.

Puppy Portrait

These precious babies were born to us on Valentine's Day of this year, 2009. The gray one on the left is a male and bigger than his 2 little sisters on the right. They have been such a fun batch!! They are 8 weeks old tomorrow, ready to go to their new homes. They are like little live Beanie Babies!
